Co-payment for physiotherapy

A health insured individual who requires training is entitled to up to 15 required treatment replacements over 365 days from the time of the first treatment replacement. The Health insured is also entitled to the necessary additional training if Iceland Health has approved such treatment.

Participation in payments by Iceland Health and outpatient healthcare institutions in connection with training shall be in accordance with regulations in force issued by the Ministry of Health. See price list (in Icelandic).

Off-contract physiotherapists

Physiotherapists working in privately run facilities resigned from their contract with the Institute in February 2020. In the absence of agreements between parties, the payment element of Iceland Health for those services is a regulation on reimbursement of the cost of the services of physiotherapists who work outside the contract.

If a physiotherapist demands an additional fee from a patient in excess of that stated in the price list, those charges do not go up to the payment contribution scheme.
