Pre-registration for car services

In order to register new vehicles on behalf of a motor vehicle agency, a member of the representative's authority must handle the registration. The representative shall be the importer's controller with respect to the Icelandic Transport Authority when it comes to the type approval and registration of vehicles.

Representative rights are divided into the following categories

Representative A

• Is entitled to register type-approval, pre-register and new-registration of vehicles.

Representative B

• Is entitled to carry out representative inspections and newly registered vehicles.

Representative C

• Is entitled to undertake representative inspection and to register type-approved coupling devices.

In order to be granted representative rights, an employee must take a course at the Icelandic Transport Authority.

A representative shall have a good knowledge of the laws and regulations applicable to the registration and inspection of vehicles and be responsible for ensuring that registrations received by the Icelandic Transport Authority are correct.
