Health insurance when moving to Iceland

The applicant is not insured while waiting for the result of the application.

If they need medical care during the processing period of the application, they can:

• Have presented the European Health Insurance Card from their previous country of residence, if they have such cards, and then paid as health insured

• Payed as non-insured and applied for reimbursement from Iceland Health when the retroactive health insurance has been approved. An application for reimbursement of domestic medical costs must then be submitted along with the invoices and payment confirmation through Réttindagátt - Senda skjöl til SÍ - Lækniskostnaður innanlands
