You can submit an application for a general free legal aid request and a statutory free legal aid via Island.is.

All those who intend to apply for free legal aid, apply for a general application, except in the following cases where a statutory application is applied for:

• Cases where a person requests compensation for arrest, search of a person or house, seizure of property, investigation of a person's health, detention or due to other actions that result in deprivation of liberty.

• Cases based on the Child Protection Act. Examples of issues covered by the Child Protection Act are fostering of a child, relocation of a child and deprivation of custody.

When the application is completed on Island.is, it is sent to the Ministry of Justice.
