Practical examinations
This test description is valid for a practical test on a motorcycle in category A, A2 and A1. At the beginning of the exam, the examiner examines the examinee's credentials and explains how the exam works. He reviews confirmations and reports on learning in the driver's book and examines the condition of test vehicles if deemed necessary.
The practical driving test for a motorcycle license is divided into an oral test, test exercises in a closed area and a driving test.
At the end of each exam, the examiner informs the examinee whether he has passed the exam. As a general rule, the test taker must be informed immediately after the test about the errors he made during the test.
The examiner must ensure that the examinee has appropriate safety and protective equipment, i.e. helmet, goggles if applicable, gloves, shoes and clothing, e.g. leather clothing, which protects the body from minor bumps. The examiner must cancel the exam if he believes that the examinee is not adequately protected, e.g. in thin clothes or poor shoes.
Oral exam
The examiner gives an oral test from a card drawn by the examinee. An oral test is given to test takers on a motorcycle before practice in a closed area.
Questions are asked about brakes and maintenance of brake equipment, steering and wheel bearings and tire equipment, frame and suspension equipment, safety equipment for the driver and passengers, and finally about controls and indicator lights.
Test exercises in a closed area
The examinee must do exercises in a special area. The examinee performs the exercises below under the direction of the examiner. Exercises should be done in the correct order and one after the other. Only one attempt is allowed per exercise. The exercises are these (references are in the picture on page 3):
1. Guide wheels. The examiner must take the bike off the stand and lead it forward and make as close a 90° turn to the left as possible from B-side to D and reverse the bike from D into C-side and place it on the stand. The test taker must have full control of the bike.
2. Snail driving. The examinee must drive along the length of the bowling lane at a normal walking speed from side C to side A, with the examiner walking on one hand and bowling on the other. The test taker must maintain good balance, without channeling or putting down a foot. Aim for a speed of 5 – 7 km.
3. Bowling sleigh. The test taker must drive as if in a bracket between nine cones from side A to side C. There is no timing in this exercise. The cone spacing must be decreasing, starting at 6 m. and ends at 3 m. If a test is taken on an unusually large training wheel, the distance between the last cones can be extended to 4 meters and the corresponding C-line. The test taker must not put a foot down or drop cones.
4. Emergency braking. The test taker must drive along the driveway to the bowling alley at the A-gate and be at least 50 km. speed. When bringing the front wheel to C-side, the examinee must brake safely until the wheel has come to rest. The braking distance should be no longer than 12 meters. If the track surface is wet, the braking distance may be 16 meters. The test taker decides whether to use only the front brakes.
5. Deflected from an obstacle. The examinee must drive along the driveway to the bowling alley and be at least 50 km speed. When the front wheel is on the B side, he must apply counter-steering and swerve to the left at the obstacle (C-line) to E.
6. U-turn. The test taker must take a U-turn to the left and end up at a stop with the front wheel on the C-side.
Driving test
The test taker provides a car and an experienced driver as well as electronic devices used in the test. If there is a problem with the electronic devices, it can be stopped and checked to see if it can be rectified, otherwise the test must be stopped and the test taker is then asked to drive to the test location. Failure of telecommunications equipment will cause suspension of the test.
Before setting off into traffic, the examiner must explain that the examinee will only be asked to turn right or left, otherwise the examinee will always drive straight ahead as long as the traffic laws allow it. If the examinee can't hear well or can't hear through an electronic device, the examinee must raise his left arm as a sign of this and the examiner will then repeat his request for a change in driving direction. The test-taker should also be advised to make sure that the accompanying vehicle does not miss him, e.g. at a traffic light where only the second vehicle, the one driving ahead (the motorcycle) crosses. In such a case, the test-taker slows down and waits for the vehicle where the conditions are suitable so that the test can continue.
The examinee's driving instructor, or another experienced driver suggested by the examinee, must drive the vehicle behind the examinee who drives the motorcycle, while the examiner conducts the test and sits in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle accompanying the motorcycle must not, with his driving, have an unreasonable influence on the test taker's driving. If this happens, the examiner must request the driver of the vehicle to stop doing so. If this happens repeatedly, the test must be stopped and the examinee must repeat the driving test, but is not considered to have failed, but the test is stopped due to the driver's inability to follow instructions. A repeated driving test can be carried out the following day.
In the driving test, the items that appear in the practical part of the curriculum, learning objectives and test requirements are tested, but they are related to:
preparation for driving and finishing a motorcycle,
technical mastery on a motorcycle and
roadworthiness, safety,
At the start of the examination, the examiner shall check the candidate's credentials and explain how the examination is going. He/she reviews attestations and reports on driving study papers and checks the condition of the test vehicle if deemed necessary.
The practical examination is two-fold, an oral examination and a driving test. A test taker must pass an oral examination before starting a driving test. Following the practical examination, the examiner shall confirm the results of the examination.
In the examination for the professional carriage of passengers in category B, the examiner shall attend a clean sweepstake and show general prudence in accordance with general and good rules on professional conduct in relations with passengers. In the event of serious deficiencies, the examiner shall cancel the examination.
Oral examination
An oral examination is held before the driving test before the driving test. The oral examination examines the applicant's knowledge of academic and practical material in the curriculum, notably dashboards, safety equipment, controls, machinery and wagon.
For the category B examinations, he/she shall be able to answer questions on:
meters and tell-tale lights on the dashboard, what each meter displays and what information it provides. The question of switches, how they are used, what they are for, and in which cases switches are used, shall be asked.
adjustment of seat and rear and side mirrors, view of the vehicle and which parts should be most emphasised to keep clean. Also on the use of safety devices and their type and the means to ensure their simple conditioning and the condition and effectiveness of brakes and other controls.
operation and maintenance of the machinery, means of checking the condition of other fluids such as glazing, cooling and braking fluids (if applicable). Also tyre replacement and warning triangle operation.
Before the examination for certification in commercial passenger transport in category B he/she shall be able to answer questions on:
dashboard, control and other equipment at the driver''s work station
Safety equipment for the driver and passengers
various general rules on taxis and their special equipment
suitable procedures for passenger emission
The examination lasts about five minutes and consists of five questions. An examinee must answer all of them correctly but must pass an examination even if the answer to two questions is not perfect. The applicant is immediately informed of the outcome of the oral examination.
Roadworthiness examination
After the oral examination, a roadworthiness examination is conducted under the direction of an external examiner.
The external examiner may only intervene in the management of the vehicle for road safety reasons. He shall, as far as possible, have the test-taker unresponsive, but shall pay more attention to his driving behaviour, see to whether he is complying with traffic regulations, engage in commuting and drive safely in the circumstances. The examiner shall monitor all indications of the applicant's awareness and foresight of traffic and his/her responses to potential foreclosure hazards. The necessary instructions for driving should be given clearly and in a timely manner by the examiner so that the applicant can understand them and comply with them. The external examiner may not give instructions that, if obeyed, would lead to violations of traffic regulations. Part of the examination shall be free riding.
Driving examinations are to examine items that appear in the practical section of the course syllabus, teaching objectives and examination requirements, which are related to:
preparation of driving and finishing a car,
technical skill on the vehicle and
ability to drive, safety, vision, attention, consideration of other road users, accommodation and compliance with traffic regulations.
If an applicant has passed the examination, the examiner and the examiner shall confirm the relevant documentation.
Progress of driving tests
1. An examiner is introduced to the driving test examiners and they walk to the test vehicle together.
2. The examiner sits next to the examiner and observes him/her buckling up, adjusting the mirrors and head restraints, and checking how the examiner generally approaches the vehicle and in it. He/she briefly explains the procedure and prepares to give an oral examination.
3. An examiner shall draw one of the six cards that the examiner shall carry with him/her. Each card contains five questions. The external examiner shall evaluate the applicant's answers correctly (20%), half-right (10%) or incorrectly (0%). Examiners are not expected to ask other questions than on the board drawn by the examiner. If the test-taker fails the driving test, an oral examination may be assessed as failing if he/she has received below 70 points in the oral examination.
4. Reported location/failure. If the test-taker fails to pass, the reasons stated and he/she is notified that he/she may make another attempt at the test within a week.
5. The external examiner shall explain the driving test to the examinee. The external examiner shall tell the examiner that he/she will be given instructions on whether to proceed to the right or to the left, or else he/she shall drive straight ahead, if this is permitted. The test taker must be informed that no instructions entail a trap i.e. that he or she is told to do something that violates traffic laws.
6. After driving, the test subject is asked, "What did you think about driving?" "What would you have liked to do better when driving?" and such questions. A test captain thus has the opportunity to assess errors and violations during the driving. The external examiner may assess whether errors or violations result in a penalty, or whether explanations for the violation reduce its weight sufficiently to justify the applicant's passing of an examination. One of the characteristics of good drivers is the self-evaluation of whether you are driving well or badly.
7. A test taker is informed in an unequivocal manner whether he/she passed an examination or not. If the examiner has passed an examination, the examiner shall tell the examiner what needs to be improved, especially if there was an issue. The external examiner may praise the work done well and may generally begin before defects are identified. An examiner shall accompany the examiner to the driving test, where the examinee shall have the application signed. In the event that an applicant has not passed an examination, the examiner shall, after completing the declaration, state the reasons for the applicant's failure and advise the other. The test taker shall be informed of the points count (scoring) for the driving test.
Practical examination with the assistance of an interpreter
If the applicant to the oral examination and driving examination for category B is unable to speak and understand Icelandic or a foreign language sufficiently chosen by the examiner, an interpreter recognised by the driving examiner shall be used. The same applies in the case of people with sign language as a first language.
A test of practical skills for commercial passenger transport shall be conducted in Icelandic.
The test vehicle
A licensed teaching vehicle shall be used for driving tests, which shall be provided by the examiner. The vehicle shall be clean and have valid inspection without comments.
Instructions in Annex IV to the Driving Licence Regulation, No 830/2011, on vehicles used for driving instruction and for practical tests, must be followed.
Special pedals are to be provided for the examiners seats so that the examiner, independently of the examiner, can release the vehicle and brake it. The examiners pedals must not operate on the examiners pedals.
The truck shall be equipped with a rear-view mirror for right-hand side examiners and the following mirrors for examiners:
Rear-view mirror inside a vehicle.
A flat eye mirror, which shows the test-taker's eyes and face, to monitor the attention of the test-taker.
Right-side corrugated rear-view mirror.
A test vehicle may be either manually operated or automatic when selected by the examiner, and when a standing test has been carried out the examiner shall indicate whether the vehicle is manually operated or automatic.
Test discharge
One external examiner is to conduct an oral examination and a driving test to supervise an examination and to judge an examination. An examiner may be prepared to have an examination monitored by other parties at the Transportation or Test Centre.
In assessing errors in a practical test, the reference driving test scale shall be used. The reference scale tells you what is considered an error and how serious it is.
During the assessment, the examiner shall pay special attention to whether an examiner is driving with skill and care, in accordance with the size and type of the vehicle, showing vision and attention and taking other traffic into account. This makes it possible to assess the driving overall and the examiner should take this into account in the overall assessment of the applicant. This includes adaptability and concentration (safety) when driving. Furthermore to follow instructions and instructions, take into account road conditions, weather conditions, other traffic, the interests of other road users and anticipation.

After the applicant has passed a written examination, the driving instructor may order a practical examination for the student. For the practical part of the examination, the examiner shall use a sanctions sheet marked according to previously specified sections. The test shall be carried out on a tractor recommended by the test taker. Communications equipment is preferred to maintain communication between waiting examiners if there is no space for examiners on the tractor. An examination is controlled from a vehicle that drives after a tractor, as in a practical test for motorcycle rights.
Oral examination
An examinee answers 5 questions from a card and the examinee must answer at least three of them correctly in order to be considered to have met the requirements for an oral examination. The themes of the five questions are:
1. Brakes
2. Steering, wheels and tyres
3. Lights and mirrors
4. Towing devices, harnesses and trailers
5. Attachment coupling devices (shafts)
Driving in traffic
The external examiner shall assess the applicant's skills and competence in the following key areas:
Driving tests examine items related to:
preparation of driving and securing the tractor,
technical skill on the tractor and
ability to drive, safety, vision, attention, consideration of other road users, accommodation and compliance with traffic regulations.
If an applicant has passed the examination, the examiner and the examiner shall confirm the relevant documentation. The length of the examination and the distance travelled must be sufficient to assess the competences and behaviour laid down in the syllabus.

Survey by district commissioner: As part of the survey by the district commissioner, if considered necessary (Act 1).
upon issuing or renewing a licence for health reasons.
when a temporary driving authorisation is issued for a person who is unable to establish a driving licence conclusively.
in cases where there is suspicion that the driver lacks sufficient driving ability.
A B-plus examination is one which shall be a theoretical B examination and a practical examination in the driving licence category/s for which the application does not, however, concern the trailer categories. Such a test is applied in these cases:
When a driving licence has been revoked:
When re-granting after withdrawal when a driver refuses to take part in a roadworthiness test or has not passed such a test.
When re-granting has been made when the revocation of a driving licence has lasted for three years or more due to information on health or due to the use of narcotic drugs or other narcotic or stimulant substances, or due to insufficient regularity.
After a driving ban or suspension: When re-arrested after a driving ban or deprived of a licence to use a provisional first licence.
After more than 12 months of suspension: When re-established after a disqualification for more than one year. A person with only a licence to a taxi shall take the practical step for a taxi in place of a practical test for category B.
For the exchange of a foreign licence from outside the EEA: For the exchange of a foreign driving licence from a state outside the EEA, the Faroe Islands, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates or Japan.
In exceptional circumstances: In cases where an applicant for the exchange of a foreign driving licence has not passed a driving test in Iceland, his/her driving licence has been revoked or his/her driving licence has been withdrawn.
Implementation
Authorised external examiners shall conduct examinations at the request of a district commissioner who shall appear on applications for a driving licence. The results of examinations shall be confirmed in an electronic driving study book or written on an application for a driving licence with appropriate comments to the sheriff.
Except where otherwise stated, the instructions apply to all categories. If a special vehicle-assistance device (cf. item 1 of Annex IV to the Regulation on driving licences) is in use during the test and an incident leads to it becoming active, the examiner shall assess whether an error is registered.
A. An external examiner may have special involvement in an examination if:
test taker fails to turn key at start of test due to steering lock
travelling far below maximum speed
hand brake is left on car when going for a ride
formation of mist becomes unacceptable
for seat belts not worn
controlled repeatedly with one hand
examination taker is mentally unbalanced – relaxation exercises
B. Instructions to examiners with reference scales for individual categories
2nd Fleet When snow covers lane markings and wheel tracks have been created, the examiner shall not register as an error if the examiner is accompanied by wheel tracks inconsistent with lane and lane lines.
3rd Fleet Normally, you should drive in the right lane if two or more people are in the same direction of travel. The examiner shall still take into account the high volume of traffic and not communicate an error in the middle or leftmost lane, if this is more suitable with regard to the route and the traffic volume. It may also be considered more appropriate to choose a left-hand turn lane of two if there is a long line to the right than a few on the left. "Interchange between lanes at intersections" includes all exchanges as in double turn lane.
4th Fleet The examiner shall monitor the applicant''s ability to use the approach and cut-offs for deceleration and increase and to see if the lanes are used to their full potential. Traffic significantly delayed means that the test-taker is travelling more than 20 km below the maximum speed despite the comments of the examiner and other traffic is significantly delayed. When assessing speeds below the maximum authorised speed, normal running on the straight track without any interference shall be considered.
6th Fleet The external examiner shall not normally record errors until the examiner has started the examination, e.g. not for killing the parking spot light or for letting go of the direction indicator light. In such cases, you should immediately inform the applicant that the error is not registered.
Actions in the process of securing a vehicle are considered to be as follows:
to reverse or 1st gear, when applicable
turn off wipes (not automatic wipes)
turn headlamps off (if they have been switched on)
windscreens (if windows are open)
kill machine
later release clutch brakes, where applicable
apply hand brake
remove key
lock the vehicle
7th Fleet Evidence that the test taker exercises caution where the right priority applies includes eye or head movement, reduced movement, knocking off the energy source and right footing against the brake. If the side is clearly visible and the vehicle speed is low (30 km), such indications need not be visible. -1 is for taking priority from another person who does not realise that he or she has priority but .11-3 if the other person has to stop because priority is taken from him or her. The applicant is expected to exercise the same caution as there may be doubt as to who has priority at intersections. The chairman also cautions against giving priority to the position. Crossing a stop line at a light-controlled intersection = more than 0.5 m above line (-1). If roughly extended to cross a walkway or the like (-3).
8. Fl Stop duties shall be based on a complete stop at a specified interval from the stop line. Criteria for scoring stoppage obligations
10th Fleet The release of a direction indicator in a tray shall not be faulted.
No error shall be made in omitting the direction indicator during road-crambling11. The general rule applies to the choice of lanes in a roundabout to select an external one if you drive to the first corner of the road and the internal or external one if you drive further. However, circumstances such as alternative roundabouts shall be taken into account.
12th Fleet pedestrian involvement also means all vulnerable road users such as cyclists, skateboards, inline skates, electric bikes, etc.
13th Fleet. The term "accommodation limit" refers to the speed of engine rotation that saves the most fuel. Generally, the criterion may be used that if rotation is between 3-4 thorny rpm, -1 will be recorded, and if it exceeds 4 thorny rpm, -3 will be recorded. Alternatively, red, yellow and green intervals on the speedometer may be used. Different criteria should also be considered according to the type of energy source.
15th Fleet. A mine is set if a car is operated for a longer period at idle or is unusually polluting if applicable.
16th Fleet. Other: This open class is suitable when conditions are very special, such as heavy snow or heavy rain, where special attention or skill is required.
16th Fleet. Trailer coupling and uncoupling: A test-trailer is allowed to couple and uncouple a trailer in BE and C1E/D1E tests but not in CE/DE tests; the oral description of the test-taker is sufficient.
