Certificate of Custody

Application for Certificate of Custody

A certificate stating the custody arrangement of a child, including the child's name, Icelandic ID number, legal domicile, the names and Icelandic ID numbers of parties with custody and custody arrangement.

The National Register of Iceland only issues guardianship certificates in cases where custody can be confirmed based on the available data. An example of a case where it may not be possible to issue a guardianship certificate is when children are born or have had legal residence abroad. The National Register of Iceland cannot assert decisions regarding custody of children on foreign soil.
