Use of Compulsion in Services for the Disabled

Declaration of the use of compulsion (Icelandic)

In accordance with the Act on the Protection of the Rights of Disabled Persons, No. 88/2011, an Expert Panel has been assembled to minimize the use of compulsion in services for the disabled. According to legislation, the use of compulsion in services for the disabled is strictly prohibited except when preventing someone from causing themselves or others bodily harm or substantial property damage, or to meet the basic needs of the individual in question.

When a service provider, director or other party responsible for relevant services to the disabled person in question believes that there is no option but to use compulsion, they can apply for an exception to the prohibition on the use of compulsion or telemonitoring, provided that the situation has been reviewed by the Expert Panel.
