Specific housing support
Specific housing support is a monthly payment to reduce the housing cost of Grindavík´s residents who need to rent housing away from Grindavík due to the earthquakes in Reykjanes.
The support is temporary for three months and will be reviewed before the end of February 2024 with regard to the need for continued support.
Conditions
Certain conditions must be met to be entitled for specific housing support:
The applicant and members of the household on the application had their legal domicile or temporary residence in Grindavík on November 10, 2023 and had to leave their home based on the Civil Defense Act.
The applicant and members of the household on the application live in rented accommodation and have their legal domicile or temporary residence there.
The applicant must be 18 years of age or older.
The applicant is a party to a lease that has been registered in the HMS Rent register.
The applicant and other household members, 18 years or older, have given their consent to the collection of information after the application has been submitted.

The application must include:
The property number (Fasteignanúmer)
The personal id.no. (kennitala) of each household member
The landlord´s personal id.no. (kennitala)
If some additional documents or information are needed you will receive an email notification that your application has been put on hold and that you have a letter on My Pages HMS with further details. It is important to monitor all correspondence from us and respond within 15 days, otherwise the application may be rejected.

The calculation of housing support is based on the assumptions you provided and is not considered a binding decision on housing support. The calculation is based on housing support payments for an entire calendar year.
Specific housing support amount
The amount of the support depends on the number of people in the household. The support can never exceed 90% of the rental price:
