Following the emergency measures taken by the National Police Commissioner's Civil Protection Department in recent weeks, work has been carried out to repair the municipality's hot water system infrastructure, allowing for increased pressure and flow of hot water to the town.

Subsequently, plumbers commissioned by the Civil Protection Department inspected the hot water mains of the properties. Pressure regulators were adjusted, and balance was restored to hot water usage. Once the hot water mains were set, an independent plumbing master, on behalf of the Plumbing Masters' Association, inspected the mains and confirmed that they were set to the best possible standards given the circumstances. After the assessment, the Civil Protection Department's oversight of the property ceases. Should evacuation become necessary due to further seismic activity or volcanic eruptions, such oversight will remain with property owners, as the Civil Protection Department's oversight was tied to the emergency measures aimed at preventing serious frost damage to properties at the beginning of 2024.

During property handover, plumbers commissioned by the Civil Protection Department will not turn on the hot water in the property's mains. The decision to turn on the hot water supply to the property is the responsibility of the property owner. It is not recommended to turn on the hot water supply tap unless someone is staying in the house. If hot water is allowed into the property, the homeowner should have a plumber inspect the pipes to prevent and minimize the risk of indoor damage.

Queries regarding hot water should be directed to HS Veitna. For inquiries about cold water, residents should contact Grindavíkurbær.

Attention is drawn to the Plumbing Masters' Association, phone number 591-0100 or website www.piparinn.is, for plumbing services if needed."
