Friends Donate Infusion Pumps

22nd April 2026

The Friends’ Association of Akureyri Hospital has recently donated ten so called CADD infusion pumps to the hospital.

Pictured are representatives of the Friends’ Association, along with the Head of Department and Assistant Heads of the Department of Internal Medicine.

These are small, electrically powered pumps used to administer medication to patients continuously or as needed over a specified period of time. They are primarily used in pain management and palliative care, where precise and continuous medication delivery is required.

“These are very important gifts, especially as the pumps currently available at Akureyri Hospital are outdated and only a few remain that can still be used,” says Rebekka Héðinsdóttir, Head of Department at the Department of Internal Medicine.

For many years, the Friends’ Association of Akureyri Hospital has supported the hospital’s operations in various ways and contributed to improving patient services and facilities.

“It is important to us at the Friends’ Association to be able to contribute to improving services for patients and their families,” says Jóhannes Gunnar Bjarnason, Chair of the Friends’ Association Board. “We know that this equipment can have a real impact on people’s well-being during difficult times, and we are proud to support the hospital’s work in this way.”

It should also be noted that payment slips for members of the Friends’ Association have been sent out, with a due date of 1 May. The annual support and membership fee is ISK 6,000.
