17th April 2026
The application period for coastal fishing permits has closed
The deadline for applications for coastal fishing permits expired on the 15th of April, and a total of 840 applications were received by the deadline.
The Directorate of Fisheries has already granted 789 permits and 51 applications are still being processed, in most cases because the condition of a valid certificate of seaworthiness has not been confirmed.
The Directorate of Fisheries' application system automatically retrieves information about certificates of seaworthiness from the Icelandic Transport Authority, which can affect processing time if the information is not available.
Granted coastal fishing permits are accessible in the fishing company's digital mailbox on Ísland.is. A list of issued coastal fishing permits can also be found on the Directorate of Fisheries' data pages.
