Monitoring by the Directorate of Fisheries with salmon and trout fishing

The Directorate of Fisheries main inspection tasks concerning salmon and trout fishing relate to the following:

  • Ban of salmon fishing at sea.

  • Netfishing of seatrout at sea.

  • Constructions and mining affecting fishing rivers and lakes

  • Escapees from fish farms.

  • Fisheries enhancement of Freshwater Fisheries Associations / owners of fishing rights.

Fisheries inspectors must have free access along rivers and lakes and also to access fishing nets at see. They have the authority to take up illegal fishing gear as well as fishing gear used at an unauthorized period or in an unauthorized place.

The Directorate of Fisheries regularly conducts helicopter surveillance in cooperation with the Icelandic Coast Guard.
