Instructions on electronic change of vehicle ownership

Enter the Icelandic Transport Authority URL address http://icetra.is and it will forward you to http://island.is/en/o/transport-authority

Select Login

Log in with your electronic ID linked to your phone number

Once you have logged in with your electronic ID you will enter the IceTRA My Pages. On that page, select Assets.

On the Assets page, select Vehicles and under that, My vehicles.

You will see a list of your vehicles. Above that list, select Change of ownership.

If there is more than one person or company registered under your electronic ID, select the one who is selling the vehicle.

Check this box to agree to the data collection specified above.

Select the vehicle you are selling.

Enter the selling price of the vehicle. This is optional but if this is entered, it will be automatically entered into your and the buyer's tax report.

Information about you - the seller - will appear, and once you have checked that it is correct, press Continue.

Here you need to fill in information about the buyer and at the bottom there is the option to register Co-owner and Keeper.

This displays the amount that must be paid for the electronic transfer of ownership. This is accepted by selecting Continue.

Finally, enter your payment card information.

This concludes your part. Now the buyer(s) must accept within 7 days and after that the change of ownership will go through.

Select login.

Here you need to log in with the electronic ID linked to your phone number.

Your My pages page appears and there you select Applications.

Now comes up the Notification status and there is a link to your approval for the change of ownership. Click on Approval pending.

Up comes an Overview of change of ownership. There you need to choose an insurance company.

Choose your insurance company from the list that appears when you click in the light blue zone. Confirm your choice.

Confirmation of the change of ownership appears. Congratulations. You have now finished the process of buying a vehicle.
