Fishing with Danish seine in the Icelandic territorial sea (closer to shore than 12 nautical miles) and other defined areas requires a special permit from the Directorate of Fisheries.
The Directorate of Fisheries calls for applications in August each year and the permits are restricted to the fishing year.
Conditions:
Vessel must hold a commercial fishing permit
Permits are only issued for vessels less than 42 meters in length.
Permits are only for vessels with a Torque index lower than 2500.

Special areas are closed for Danish seine fishing and information thereof can be found in the Marine SDI.
Fishing gear
The minimum mesh size is 135 mm. Note that the regulation regarding mesh gauge measurements and mesh measurements apply here.
The regulation stipulates the use of T90tudned mesh on the top net.
Applications are made through the application system of the Directorate of Fisheries.
