Health insurance in Iceland and the United Kingdom for BREXIT

The UK exited the European Union on 31 January 2020, leaving the European Economic Area. On 01.01.2024, the Agreement between EFTA Countries and the United Kingdom on Social Security entered into force. Under this Agreement, health insured persons in the United Kingdom enjoy the same rights to health insurance and health services as other persons insured under an EEA Agreement.

Travel to Iceland and the UK:
As of the entry into force of the Agreement 01.01.2024, Icelandic European Health Insurance Cards for Healthcare in the UK and British Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) are valid for healthcare in Iceland.
